This week golf fans will be treated to the second women’s competition of the year on an iconic golf course. While the US Women’s Open is second on the main schedule, it is widely considered the most important women’s tournament of the season. It also features the largest bag, which reached 12 million dollars last year.
Nelly Korda is likely to get the most attention this week, as it often does. But there’s a good reason for increased interest this week: Korda won the first major of the yearcapturing her third career major title at the 2026 Chevron Championship in April.
Repeat has returned to number 1 in the worldbut she has never won a US Women’s Open. Last year at Erin Hills, Korda finished T2 behind champion Maya Stark.
Stark is back in the field to defend her title, as are several other high-profile winners, including Lydia Ko AND Mao Saigowhile the world no Jeeno Thitikul will make another attempt at earning her first degree.
Riviera CC has a long history on the golf course. In addition to hosting the PGA’s annual Genesis Tour Invitational, the club was the site of the 1948 US Open and two PGA Championships. In 2028, the club will host the Olympic golf competition, and in 2031 it will host its second men’s US Open.
