There are videos that you watch and forget. And then there are videos that make you put down your phone, grab your clubs, and head straight to the practice facility.
This is one of those videos for me.
Blades Brown is one of the most accurate iron players in the game right now. He is second on the PGA Tour with 71.46 percent in regulation (between Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy). Brown posted a video of himself on the range working his entire bag with a Foresight launch monitor. Club by club, he calls his stock, goes up, hits it. Then he looks at the number.
115 meters with a 58 degree. He hits 115.
181 with a 7 iron. He hits 183.
Over and over, within a yard or two of his number. It’s one of the most impressive things you’ll see a golfer do.
What I like about Brown’s swing is how consistent his swing stays as he works through the irons and longer woods. It’s hard to even know what club is in his hand because of the way he controls his swing.

Now here’s the thing. You won’t do it again and that’s okay. It’s also not the point.
The thing is, Brown knows his 54-yarder goes 115 yards. Not 120. Not “somewhere out there”. And he knows his 7-iron goes 183. Not 185 or 190.
Most amateur players play with made-up numbers. They think their 7-iron is a 155-yard club because they hit it 155 yards once on a warm day with the wind helping. They think their hitting wedge is a 120-yard club because that “sounds right.”
Watch this video and then go to the range with a launch monitor. Hit 10 balls with each club. Their average. Write the numbers. You may be surprised (and perhaps humbled) by what you find. But at least you’ll know. And knowing is what allows you to stand over a 147-yard drive and commit to a club instead of guessing.
