In our 2026 testing, across 24 blade throws and more than 15,000 blade throws, the spread between the best and worst performers at close range was almosteight the blows. Three shooters cost players shots on short shots instead of sparing them while Mizuno M.Craft Osaka posted a short PuttView score of -6.5. That’s good enough to beat 27 of the 29 hammers we tested. Blade shooters who excel at short shots
The table below shows the PuttView results at each distance so you can see the full picture. A few things worth mentioning: COBRA 3DP Tour Grandsport AND He-Dual DW Odyssey are strong in short shots, but show an average positive shot number, meaning they give away some of those gains from further out. of Mizuno AND PING considers 4 are the most rounded of the group with Scotty Cameron SS Newport 2 as a good alternative.
of Mizuno M.Craft Osaka not only did it lead our blade test in the PuttView short score. It also had the highest short throw production rate of any blade we tested at 90.0 percent.


Bladers who fight in short throws
The three blade players in our test posted positive PuttView Short scores, meaning they cost players strokes on short shots instead of saving them. of Makefield Proto (+1.1), Edel The Brick (+0.6) and Sausage Golf Design No. 2 (+0.3) all fell on the wrong side of zero.
It is worth noting that all three are separate brands. of Bettinardi BB-8W and the LA GOLF Bel Air II are essentially neutral on short shots, doing very little to help or hurt you up close, though both are strong on long shots.
