Sourav Ganguly talks about Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s future in Test cricket



Rajasthan Royals (RR) young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has delivered impressive performances over the past few months IPL 2026 season has created a lot of excitement among Indian cricket fans. Many are already debating how quickly the teenage sensation can rise through the national ranks. Amid the growing uproar over the former India captain’s 15-year-old mortician Sourav Ganguly now he offered his honest decision about the young man’s future.

The former BCCI president lauded Suryavanshi’s fearless batting and immense potential, while urging caution on expectations for the longer format of the game.

Speaking to TOI in Kolkata, Ganguly revealed that while Suryavanshi already looks ready for T20 cricket, he needs more experience before stepping into the Test arena. The former India captain, however, was full of admiration for the teenager’s fearless approach against elite bowling attacks at such a young age.

“Vaibhav can play T20 cricket straight away, but he can still check cricket. He needs to score runs in first-class cricket. Still, it’s incredible for a 15-year-old kid to bat against world-class bowlers. He is the future of India. We never imagined that T20 cricket would be so massive. He will continue to produce fearless knocks that can hit consecutive sixes.” Ganguly said.

Ganguly also praised Suryavanshi’s confidence and attacking mentality throughout his rise in domestic and franchise cricket. According to the former captain, modern cricket is evolving rapidly and young batsmen today are more fearless than previous generations.

Ganguly backs Auqib Nabi and Prince Yadav for bigger opportunities

Besides discussing Suryavanshi, Ganguly also talked about domestic cricket options and highlighted two young pacers who have impressed him in recent times. The former BCCI president backed the Jammu and Kashmir pacer Augib Nabi He pointed to his strong performances in the Ranji Trophy to earn a place in India’s squad for the Afghanistan series. Ganguly also extended his support to the young fast bowler Prince Yadav.

“I think both Auqib Nabi and Shahzade Yadav deserved their opportunities” Ganguly said.

He further added that it doesn’t take long in domestic cricket before really fast bowlers get a chance at a higher level. For now, most of the focus is on Suryavanshi, whose explosive batting continues to dominate the conversation in Indian cricket.
