Odyssey’s Two Blade Putters Tested The Same – But Don’t Play The Same

On paper, the Odyssey Ai-Dual #1 and the Ai-Dual DW are nearly identical. Same brand family, same AI milled putter and after our full PuttView testing, same overall PuttView handicap of -2.3. In a side-by-side scoreboard, they look like twins.

They are not twins.

When you break down the overall score by distance (short, medium, long), these two players tell completely different stories. And figuring out which story matches your game can be the difference between a shooter that works for you and one that quietly costs you shots every round.

Same result, different game

PuttView’s overall handicap is a useful headline number, but it flattens out a lot of nuance. In the case of these two Odyssey players, the overall result is almost deceiving.

The Ai-Dual DW is a short throw specialist. From within the range where you’d expect to convert, it posted a -5.4, one of the best short-range scores in our entire blade test field. It’s doing something right when the pressure is higher and the distances are shorter.

But take that same shooter out to mid-range, 15 to 25 feet, and it falls apart. DW posted a +6.4 at midrange, placing him near the bottom of the field for that distance.

Ai-Dual #1 does the opposite. It posts average performance at short and medium ranges and the best result at long shots. It is more of a generalist, not a specialist.

Why do they play so differently?

The answer is likely in the shape of the head. of He-Dual #1 it is a traditional, narrow and compact blade. of He-Dual DW it’s a double-wide blade, meaning the face extends significantly further from the heel to the toes.

This wider footprint shifts the weight distribution and changes how the shooter wants to move through the shot. A double-wide head tends to resist face rotation, which encourages a straighter, more pendulum-style path. For players who play this way naturally, this is a great feature.

For golfers who rely on face arc and spin to frame the swing, which describes most amateur golfers, it can work against them, especially on shorter fairways where the swing is more instinctive and compact.

No. 1 does not challenge the golfer in the same way. He accommodates a wider range of shot types, which is why his numbers are more consistent across distances.

Who should play every shooter?

of He-Dual DW is for:

  • Golfers who struggle to return short putts. DW posted one of the best short-range scores in the entire test field at -5.4. If that’s the bleeding edge part of your game, this shooter is doing something right.
  • Gamers who are happy to sacrifice mid-range performance. DW falls from 15-25 feet. If you can live with that, or if setting delays is already a strength, the short-range benefits may be worth it.

of He-Dual #1 is for:

  • Golfers who want a putter that won’t hurt them at any distance. Number 1 is stable in the short, medium and long term.
  • Players who do a lot of damage from medium range. If three-shots are killing your results, #1’s neutral mid-range performance (-0.4) is a significant advantage over DW’s +6.4 collapse at that distance.

What does this tell us about buying machinery?

The biggest lesson here is not about the Odyssey. This is assuming that two barrels from the same brand and product line will play the same way. They won’t.

Head shape, weight and geometry matter more than the name on the back of the tire. The introduction of AI in both these clubs is the same. The performance separation between them is entirely about what the head is doing to the shot, not what the putter is doing to the ball.

Before you buy a barrel based on brand loyalty or because a model you liked in the past came from the same family, it’s worth asking: which version of this barrel actually fits the way I shoot?

Final thoughts

of Ai-Dual Odyssey #1 AND He-Dual DW they are both placed solidly in isolation. Neither cracked the top tier of our 2026 blade test. That honor went to him Mizuno M.Craft Osaka at -5.5 overall, but both Odysseys delivered respectable performance relative to the field.
