Odyssey’s latest putters are the first hammers in the low-torque putter category to have no slack shaft and shaft heel.
The company is building on its success The S2S Tri-Hot platform, launched last fallwith the same three forms – Jailbird, No. 7 and Rossie – in a new configuration SB (with a twist) that the company still calls “Zero torque”.
“If you ask a consumer, ‘Do you prefer a center shaft putter or a heel shaft putter?’ The answer is always, ‘I’d love a heel putter,’” Odyssey vice president of product strategy Jacob Davidson told GOLF. “They want their stretch line back. They want something that looks familiar. But they also see the benefit of turning face on the square.”
Building on the extremely forward CG of the S2S Tri-Hot machines – which use 140g of tungsten to push mass forward and allow the head to balance toe-up with minimal launch – the new S2S Tri-Hot SB models add a high shaft with a twist. This axle design places the axle shaft directly through the camera’s center of gravity.
At address, they look much more traditional than most other options in category of low torque thrusters.
Max Greyserman has used various models in the S2S Tri-Hot SB line since American Express at the start of the PGA Tour season, most recently a Jailbird Cruiser.
They also feature the same technology as the original S2S Tri-Hot line with the Ai-Dual insert, up to 140g of tungsten to push the CG forward, FRD groove design, new pistol grip plus and a black SL120 shaft.

What’s really new with Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB gear — and why you should care
Zero-torque forward motion AND heel ward
The S2S Tri-Hot removed one of the barriers to entry for the low-torque putter category with significantly reduced launch, allowing the putter to look more like a traditional center shaft putter at address.
As has been the trend in recent months, the Odyssey has now found its own method of maintaining low-torque characteristics by placing the axle in a traditional heel position.
To do this, Tri-Hot SBs use a unique shaft with a high bend that bends at a certain point, allowing the shaft to pass through the CG of the prop.

Davidson said some different guts were experimented withincluding a modified crank shaft, but none looked as traditional as the single-twist shaft.
“People don’t want new hoses,” he said. “They don’t want something that adds another angle. They’re used to a single bend or a double bend. This was just the cleanest, most normal-looking way to bring it to market.”
With the shaft now in the heel, the shooters sight lines are completely unobstructed, allowing players to use the bars without a problem.
Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB lineup
There are three shapes in the S2S Tri-Hot SB lineup: Jailbird, No. 7 and Rossie. No. The 7 is available in a 38” Cruiser configuration.

What is it: Odyssey high MOI hammer press with maximum durability thanks to a unique rear window design. The Jailbird also has a unique vertical color blocking Versa alignment assist paint scheme.
Who is it for: Players looking for maximum forgiveness in a low-torque putter that looks like a traditional putter.
No. 7

What is it: Odyssey’s popular fang-style bar with long parallel stretch aids. No. The 7 is also available in a 38-inch cruiser model with a heavier head, shaft and grip.
Who is it for: Players looking for maximum reach benefit from a low-torque putter that offers an unobstructed view thanks to the SB setup.

What is it: A compact half moon style medium hammer.
Who is it for: Players looking for the most blade-like hammer in a low-torque putter, but with more forgiveness and a more natural release.
My take: ‘torque zero’ is evolving
Until last summer, we only knew low-torque thrusters as centershafts. Now of course that is no longer the case.
It’s interesting to think about, while tire technology has evolved over the decades; low torque meters are only a recent innovation. Companies are just starting to explore what’s possible and what shapes they can make.
Given the distaste many golfers have for center shaft players, it was only natural that the first place the market would go was to try to make the players look as traditional as possible. As Davidson explains, they achieve this quite well. He says people have been blown away by the design when they’ve tried it in his office in recent months.
“They’ll pick it up, start hitting shot after shot, and then they’ll go, ‘Wait a second — is that zero torque?'” Davidson said. “Because it looks like a traditional putter, but once you spin it, you can feel the difference in the torque profile.”
As I’ve gone through a few different low-torque putters over the past year, I’ve found that as the setup matches my swing stroke, I struggle to feel the release and block shots.
In testing with Rossie, my favorite shape of the three, I don’t see that being the case as much. None of these stocks are really “torque”, which is why GOLF uses the term “low torque” instead, and I noticed that these gauges don’t spin in your hand as easily as some others.
Does that mean they have a greater spin of the touch that helps me loosen it up? Potentially.
What is certain is that these stocks look just like any other sportsman out there, meaning the barriers to entry in the category have never been lower.
Price, Specifications and Availability
Odyssey Tri-Hot Square 2 Square Jailbird SB Custom Putter
The new Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB gear redefines what Zero Torque looks and feels like. Through multi-material construction, we’ve moved the center of gravity forward allowing the shaft to enter the head on the topline. This creates a naturally square configuration with no shaft tilt, removing one of the biggest barriers to the adoption of zero-torque designs. The SB (Single Bend) setup moves the shaft toward the heel, providing a more familiar look at address while fully maintaining zero-torque performance. The result is a zero-torque thruster in a non-hub design with clean, unobstructed alignment and intuitive setup.
