It’s no secret that everything is more expensive these days, but somehow I’m still surprised when I see the price of some golf equipment. A single three-piece outfit—top, bottom, shoes—can set you back several hundred dollars. This is wild! Even if you know what you’re buying is a quality item worth investing in, sticker shock still hits you.
That’s why it was so refreshing to try out some of the latest gear from Skechers. The ubiquitous brand released its first pair of golf shoes more than a decade ago and has enjoyed some recent buzz thanks to their PGA Tour star ambassador Matt Fitzpatrick. But I’ve never worn an item from the Skechers golf apparel line, which first launched in 2017. To my delight, that finally changed last week.
What I liked about Skechers golf apparel
The view
I tested a full outfit of Skechers gear for my latest round: the polo (Skechers GO DRI Swift Women’s Sleeveless Golf Shirt), absence (Skechers GO FLEX Women’s 16 Inch Golf Skort) and shoes (Women’s Skechers Flow Slip-ins Spikeless Golf Shoes). I liked the look immediately. The polo has attractive contrast piping on the collar and a flattering V-neck – no buttons!
The skirt was prominent, with a clean, flat front and subtle pleats at the back. The double-layered waist offered compression and support, and the length was just right—not too short, not too long. My only criticism would be the lack of outside pockets, but I actually got used to using the attached short liner pocket pretty quickly.
The shoes were my first slides ever, and what a find! Every shoe needs this! They were comfortable right out of the box and I really liked the neutral color scheme. They’ll go with everything, and the fact that they’re studless means I’ll be wearing them anywhere off the course, too.
performance
As a resident of Phoenix, I often play in the heat, so there was probably no better time than last week to test the reliability of the Go-DRI polo. The mercury hit 110 degrees during my round and I’m happy to report that the polo passed the test. It’s stretchy and light, and feels good all day.
On the skirt front, the high-waisted design helped my polo stay in place all day long. The shoes were comfortable and kept me blister free. A TPU coating helped them stay clean as well.
PRICE
The most impressive thing about these Skechers pieces is definitely the price. Given the quality of the fabrics, these items can sell for double their listed retail prices. But at just $49 for the skort, $39 for the polo, and $109.99 for the shoes, the entire outfit works out to less than $200. That’s serious value, especially given the high-end performance and customization. It’s easily my new favorite outfit.
Needless to say, the next time I’m in the market for a new golf ensemble that won’t break the bank, I know just where to look.
