MotoGP marketing chief defends independent media’s use of ‘F1 awareness’ to improve the sport

Brittain added that Liberty Media took their investment in MotoGP seriously and allowed the sport to grow significantly, citing improved viewership records since its takeover.

“They’re here for the long term and they’re making a long-term investment and supporting the business with a long-term view. It’s not like a typical pig-driven industry, where they come in and take a lot of costs out of the business and bleed it out and sell it.”

“Freedom’s participation has increased the talent pool from agencies that want to work with us and brands that want to work with us.

“While purists may feel that something is wrong, you can’t argue that 10 times the growth of fans and people being able to turn on a TV or open an app and enjoy what they see is 10 times a bad thing.”

And I’m not talking about the revenue ceiling, I’m talking about people’s time and enjoyment and access to the sport, and that’s what we’re trying to do.

Whether or not the independent media intends to make sweeping changes to MotoGP, they should be aware of the negative rumors about their involvement in the sport.

MotoGP teams have asked Liberty Media to improve compensation. With the new revenue sharing agreement, the new owners feel they are right, considering how they envision the sport growing.

It would be nice if Liberty Media started taking a more painstaking approach to MotoGP and let them run the same way they have been before and offer a few tweaks and recommendations.
