More from the MotoGP press release:

Di Giannantonio rockets to P1 on Friday morning in the VR46 of Jerez to lead 1-2, working away from the Spanish GP but it was the Italian’s surprise that took over the weekend’s opening session.

There are three weekends left but MotoGP action returns with a bang in Jerez as we hit the Spanish circuit for the start of the European lap. FP1 welcomes Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) to the race, with the top Ducati in the championship stepping down from position to position.

‘Diggia’ was strong through the session but it was the last run that saw him set the fastest lap time; A 1’36.954, the Italian was the only rider in the 1’36s. Just what the doctor ordered, Franco Morbidelli makes VR 46 1-2. Morbidelli returned to form after a rough trip to Brazil and the US and was one-tenth shy of the #49. 2025 Spanish GP winner Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) finished third at the flag, edging out championship leader Marco Bezecic (Aprilia Racing). Reigning world champion Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) had a strong start at his home Grand Prix, finishing in the top five.

Sixth went to Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) on the new yellow RS-GP but the biggest highlight was in seventh behind. Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team) put the V4 Yamaha in the top ten on Friday morning, an encouraging start as the more familiar European tracks could give a better indication of his competitiveness. Top KTM honors went to Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), ahead of Johan Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) and current-P2 in the championship, Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing). In the final practice session and when he was fine, he had a surprise crash in turn 3 that started to come off his lap.

Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) was 11 in the top ten.Th While working his way down the order, mechanical gremlins hit Torak Razgatlioglu (Prima Pramak Yamaha MotoGP) as the Turkish rider returned to a circuit he knows well from his time in WorldSBK. The problems did not slow him down and ‘El Turco’ finished the session in P15 and the second Yamaha to stop at the checkered flag.
