Marco Bezecchi confirmed his pole position during qualifying for the MotoGP at Italy’s Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello. Riding an Aprilia Racing RS-GP26 on the 3.26-mile (5.25 km) track, Bezcicci topped the 22-rider field with a 1:43.921.
Raúl Fernández took the third and final spot on the front row with a 1:44.145 in the Aprilia Trackhouse RS-GP26 and Bezecichi team-mate Jorge Martin with a 1:44.284.
Row two qualifiers included Ducati Lenovo’s Marc Marquez (1:44.294), Fermin Aldeguerre (1:44.313) and Marquez’s teammate Francesco Bagnaia (1:44.482).

The Mugello masterclass saw him move up the ranks once again to set a 1’43 lap for the first time at the historic Italian circuit from championship leader Marco Bezecchi (Aprilia Racing). 1’43.921 to be exact, first pole after Buriram for #72 Q1 qualifier Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and 2024 World Champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) on the grid.
Down to business: Q1 heavyweight fight
The pressure was on in Q1, especially for the likes of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Trackhouse MotoGP Team duo Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez at the top of the championship. Three riders going into two qualifying places for Q2 didn’t fit, so someone was going to be disappointed. Acosta’s time of 1’44.765 was beaten late by Fernandez and while Ogura had a lap time to match and several red sectors, he couldn’t put it all together and just missed out on the Japanese star by 0.087s. Acosta and Fernandez joined the top ten for Friday afternoon’s pole vault.
Polar War: Q2 begins in Italy
In Q2, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) led the riders train – with team-mate Marc Marquez behind him – on their opening lap, but the threat was coming from elsewhere as Jorge Martin’s opening gambit was 1’44.284. Martineter’s lap was just a tenth off the all-time lap record and by mid-session Aprilias were first, second and third, with Fernandez and Bezeci backing the 2024 world champion’s early pace.
Surprise: Bezecchi sets a new lap record
By the time the second races started, Peco was clearly breaking down and washing over his head. In P10, he needed a lap time and was preparing the red sectors – like the others. The timing screen lit up with pole challenges and with the hot rubber locked and loaded, we hit the big stage until Q2.
Bagnaia went into P4 but all eyes were on Bezechi who put together an amazing lap. 1’43, his first at Mugello on a motorcycle, pulled over two tenths of a second under two minutes on the clock. But that means there’s still time… Who else can spoil the championship lead coming home? Marc Marquez was up more than ten and a half laps but was caught behind Acosta and unable to move to the front row and had to settle for fourth.
The final stage: Bezecchi is invincible for the Mugello pole.
No one can put a glove on a Bezeci or an Aprilia, the Noale factory is running riot and buying at home. The #72 pole was his first safety since Buriram and gave Aprilia its first pole at Mugello since Tetsuya Harada in 1999. Q2 finisher Fernandez is second on the grid, while Martin is 0.363s ahead of his teammate.
Elsewhere: Aldeguer and Moreira impress, Diggia struggles, Acosta in P10
Heading to the second row of the grid, a great comeback from Marc Marquez as the #93 looked set to fight for victory. Fermin Aldeguerre (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) was fifth at the flag, the first top-five Grand Prix winner on the grid to start second on the weekend in Indonesia, while Bagnaia moved up to sixth for his home GP.
Behind, Barcelona winner Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) was seventh and failed to connect for a full lap and came into the sessions on the back of a technical problem in FP2. Diogo Moreira (Pro Honda LCR) took a career-best eighth, becoming the first Brazilian to do so since Alex Barros in 2007. Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) completed the third row, while Acosta rounded out the top ten, leading N.A. Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) and Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) on row 11.Th and 12Th respectively.
Qualifying is off, Sprint works on the horizon – it’s on at 15:00 local time, you know the drill.
