MotoGP: Aprilia breaks the all-time speed record at Mugello

Martin reached 368.6 km/h for the first time in history – that’s 229 mph.

It’s official: there’s a new top speed record in MotoGP! On Saturday morning at Mugello, Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) hit 368.6 km/h – that’s 229 mph – for the first time.

The #89 set the new top speed in FP2 at the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy, beating the previous record of 366 km/h by Brad Binder and Pol Espargaro on the Red Bull KTM factory racer. They are set for 2023 by the South African and 2024 by the Spaniard – both at Mugello.

Speaking to MotoGP reporter Jack Appleyard in the pitlane, Aprilia Racing Technical Director Fabiano Sterlacchini was delighted.

“He was one of our targets,” said the Italian. “Achieving the highest speed of all time is extremely exciting, thanks to everyone at Aprilia for aerodynamic perfection and engine performance, everything is a coordinated effort of all aspects of the bike.

I won’t slow down to reach 370 km/h because with the right wind direction and slipstream another 2 km/h is possible!”

Tune in to the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy to see if that 370 km/h is a reality.
