Moto2: Vietti takes pole position in Catalonia


Celestino Vitetti was the man to win the Moto2 World Championship qualifier on Saturday at Sector de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain. The Italian rider finished on top with a new lap record time. Riding a Pirelli-shod beta-equipped SPDRS Boscoscuro, Vetti covered 2.89 miles (4.66 km) in 1:41.076, breaking Manuel Gonzalez’s 2026 all-time lap record in FP2 2026.

Colin Weir was second best on the Red Bull KTM Ajo Kalex 1:41.338.

Manuel Gonzalez took the third and final spot in his Likki Moly Dynavolt Intact GP Calex with a 1:41.436.

Row two qualifiers included QJMOTOR – Bordoy – MSI’s Ivan Ortola (1:41.455), ITALJET Gresini’s Alonso Lopez (1:41.521) and LF Marc VDS’ Aaron Canet (1:41.552).

American Joe Roberts, the sole supporter of American Racing Team Calex, finished 25th with a lap time of 1:42.405.

Vetti flew to Barcelona’s record-breaking goal. The Italian set a new Moto2 lap record in a rare Saturday P1 ahead of Vejer and championship leader Gonzalez.

An all-time Moto2 lap record of 1:41.076 in Barcelona from Friday’s pacesetter Celestino VTT (Beta Tools SpeedRS Team) ensured the Italian secured his first pole position since the 2024 Austrian GP.
