Moses Itauma appears as mandatory for Daniel Dubois

Moses Itauma can already move into position for a heavyweight title shot against Daniel Dubois after Dubois’ victory over Fabio Wardley on Friday night.

A post from Pound4Pound on X reported that Itauma had been named the WBO mandatory challenger for Dubois’ heavyweight title, with WBO president Gustavo Olivieri saying he had formally recommended the undefeated British contender for the position.

Dangerous assignment for the newly crowned champion

“🚨Moses Itauma is the mandatory challenger for Daniel Dubois WBO heavyweight title😳‼️” posted the Pound4Pound account.

The development would put one of the division’s fastest-rising young heavyweights directly in line for Dubois after Itauma’s recent string of victories accelerated his standing with the WBO.

Itauma, 21, has become one of the most talked about prospects in boxing because of his aggressive style, hand speed and finishing ability. The southpaw is also coached by Ben Davison, who prepared Fabio Wardley for Friday’s clash with Dubois.

Dubois solidified his position in the heavyweight division with his win over Wardley, but the prospect of facing Itauma next would immediately give him another dangerous assignment against a younger fighter who many see as a future titleholder.

The WBO has yet to publicly finalize the mandatory situation, but Itauma’s name is increasingly linked to the top of the organization’s rankings following his recent performances.

The next massive all-British clash

A Dubois-Itauma fight would also create one of the biggest all-British heavyweight fights available outside of the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua picture, matching Dubois’ proven strength and experience against one of the division’s youngest contenders.

The potential bout is likely to generate a lot of interest in the UK due to Itauma’s rapid rise and Dubois’ position near the top of the heavyweight division. Itauma was already discussed by fans and analysts as a possible future world champion, even though he was still early in his professional career.
