Mallorca and Valencia shared the spoils in a competitive La Liga game in Son Moix, with Samú Costa’s second-half goal canceled out by Umar Sadiq’s equaliser.
Mallorca hosted Valencia on April 21 with the intention of climbing away from the relegation zone. The home team took 15th position with 34 points from 31 games. Valencia sat just above them in 14th place with 35 points. Both teams needed wins to bolster their survival hopes in such a close battle at the bottom of the table.
The first half continued goalless despite Mallorca’s dominance. The home team controlled possession at 59 percent and created numerous chances. Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski was crucial for the visitors, making several important saves to keep the score level.
Mallorca advanced constantly in the first 45 minutes. Sergi Darder orchestrated the game from midfield with five key passes. Jan Virgili and other attacking players tested Dimitrievski repeatedly. However, the home side couldn’t find the breakthrough before the break.
Valencia defended resolutely despite limited possession. The visitors soaked up the pressure and looked dangerous on the counter-attack. They managed just three shots on goal, but remained compact and organized throughout the first period.
The second half brought immediate drama. Samú Costa broke the scoreboard in the 49th minute with a composed finish. The Mallorca midfielder fired past Dimitrievski to give the home side the advantage they deserve. Costa’s goal came after sustained pressure and rewarded the home side’s offensive intent.
Valencia quickly responded to fall behind. The visitors pushed forward with renewed urgency. Umar Sadiq equalized just 18 minutes later in the 67th minute. Sadiq’s goal brought life to Valencia’s performance and changed the momentum.
Both teams created chances after Sadiq’s equaliser. Mallorca continued to dominate possession and registered eight shots on goal. Valencia improved their offensive performance, but remained limited in clear-cut chances. The match became an open contest with both sides looking for a winner.
Dimitrievski made seven crucial saves throughout the 90 minutes, earning an 8.9 rating. The performance of the Valencian goalkeeper was decisive to preserve a point for the visitors. Costa finished with an 8 rating after his goal and tireless work in midfield.
Mallorca finished with superior statistics in most metrics. The locals scored a total of 20 shots against Valencia’s 10. The expected goals favored Mallorca with 1.81 to 1.49. However, Valencia’s defensive discipline and Dimitrievski’s brilliance ensured they walked away with a draw.
The result leaves both teams in precarious positions. Mallorca remains in 15th position with 34 points in 32 games. Valencia is in 14th place with 35 points in 32 games. Both teams face crucial games ahead as the season enters its final stretch.
