Liverpool defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 at Anfield to maintain their push for Champions League qualification, with Alexander Isak and Andy Robertson setting the tone before Florian Wirtz sealed victory late on.
Liverpool welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield on April 25 looking to boost their bid for a top-four finish. The home side finished fifth with 55 points from 33 games, while Palace reached 13th with 43 points. Liverpool’s recent form read WWLDL, showing inconsistency. Palace, meanwhile, came off the back of a defeat and needed a positive result to climb the table.
The game sprang to life in the 35th minute when Alexander Isak fired Liverpool ahead. The forward showed composure to finish clinically after good build-up play created the opening. Just five minutes later, Andy Robertson doubled the lead from the left back. Robertson struck with precision in the 40th minute, extending Liverpool’s lead to two goals at the break.
Liverpool controlled ball possession with 53 percent of the first half. The hosts’ passing accuracy reached 82 percent, allowing them to dictate the game. Palace struggled to create clear chances early on. The visitors managed just three shots on goal during the 45 minutes.
In the second half, Palace came out with renewed intensity. They pressed higher and created more chances, with Crystal Palace racking up 14 shots in total compared to Liverpool’s nine. Palace’s expected goals (xG) figure of 2.32 suggested they deserved more from the game than their final tally.
Palace pulled one back in the 71st minute through Dani Muñoz. The defender’s goal gave the visitors hope and caused some nervous moments for Liverpool. The game tightened considerably as Palace pressed for an equaliser. However, Liverpool’s defence, well organized by Ibrahima Konaté, held firm under pressure.
Florian Wirtz decided the match in minute 90+6. The striker scored in stoppage time to seal a 3-1 win for Liverpool. Wirtz’s late finish snuffed out any hopes of a Palace comeback and gave the hosts a comfortable final score.
Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman rated 8.2 for Liverpool, making five crucial saves. Robertson also received 8.2 after his goal and a solid defensive showing. Konaté impressed with a 7.9 rating, maintaining defensive discipline throughout the 90 minutes.
Palace’s 14-shot tally outscored Liverpool’s nine, but the hosts’ clinical finishing proved decisive. All three of Liverpool’s shots on goal were converted twice, while Palace had seven, but scored just one. The expected goals data favored Palace at 2.32 to Liverpool’s 0.91, indicating that the visitors created better chances overall.
The result moves Liverpool to 58 points from 34 games, strengthening their Champions League push. Palace remain on 43 points with work to do in their battle for mid-table safety. Liverpool’s win keeps the pressure on the teams above them in the standings.
