Keyshawn Davis told his opponent Gustavo Lemos that there was going to be blood everywhere and that his nose was going to be “sideways” by the end of their 10-round lightweight fight this Friday, November 8, at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) is the best fighter Keyshawn (11-0, 7 KOs) has faced since his loss to Cubans Andy Cruz in the 2020 Olympics, and things could end badly for the American if he doesn’t step up his game from what he’s shown in his recent fights.
Argentinian Lemos can punch, and he wants to ensure he doesn’t lose a controversial decision like he did in his last fight against Richardson Hitchins on April 6. Keyshawn handpicked Lemos and told his Top Rank promoters that this was the guy he wanted rather than a lesser fighter.
We’ll see if Keyshawn made the right choice because Top Rank’s matchmakers didn’t want him to face this guy. They presented him as 38-year-old Nicholas Walters.
Losing to Lemos in front of his hometown fans in Norfolk will be a bitter pill for Keyshawn to swallow if he gets beat, but it will be a lesson for him. Next time he must go along with the wishes of the Top Rank matchmakers, who are the best in the business.
Keyshawn Davis: “It’s not going to be a beautiful fight. It’s going to be blood everywhere. His nose may be a little crooked, but I respect Gustavo. You are a great fighter. I appreciate you taking up the fight in my hometown, but I’m going to screw you up,” Davis said during today’s final press conference.
“He is ready for the challenge. I think he’s the perfect guy for this moment. I’m a dramatic fighter. I like to do the unexpected. Expect that Friday night.
Gustavo Lemos: “I don’t really see a difference. I have a strong opponent in front of me, and that’s what I’m going to do. I’ve always said he’s a good opponent, and I expect a good fight.”
Keyshawn: “Sounds like he knows what he’s up against. Gustavo, be ready for Friday because you already know. Tell him to look my way when he speaks.”
Gustavo: “I respect all my opponents, good and bad. I want to congratulate him on Friday. Be careful.”
“Keyshawn: “I feel like I’m ready for any opponent at 135, whether it’s #1 or #8 or whatever. After this fight, when I get a spectacular win, I’m going for a world title. Lemos is just another opponent in front of me that I have to knock down. We are going to be world champions next year.”
Gustavo: “I came to work hard. I have nothing else to say, but it’s going to be a beautiful fight.”
