Keyshawn Davis-Albright Rematch Seen as a Step Back

“Keyshawn and Nahir left a lot of unfinished business in their 2023 fight, and everything that’s happened since then has only heightened the stakes for this rematch,” said Supreme Rankings President Todd duBoef. “Norfolk fans know exactly what this fight means to Keyshawn as he strives to re-establish himself as one of boxing’s elite stars.”

Otherwise, that message lands outside the promotion. The first fight was competitive, but it did not create a demand for a comeback. This created a result that most people were ready to move on from. Bringing it back now, after Davis has already moved divisions and picked up momentum, feels like a step sideways.

The timing is what stands out. Keyshawn (14-0, 10 KOs) made real strides with his stoppage of Denys Berinchyk for a title in 2025 and a strong performance against Jamaine Ortiz in his 140-pound debut. This game doesn’t build on that. It circles back to a name he has already handled once, even if the result on paper has been changed. Fans were looking for a step into deeper waters, not a return trip.

Albright (17-2-1, 7 KOs) stayed busy and earned respect with wins and a draw against solid opposition, including handing Kelvin Davis his first loss and drawing with Frank Martin. He is not an easy night, and his style made the first fight competitive. But he’s still not the type of opponent that signals a move to the upper echelon of the division, especially for someone positioned as a future star.

The rest of the card features Brian Norman Jr. who returns in a welterweight matchup against Josh Wagner, along with appearances from Kelvin and Keon Davis. The event also serves as Top Rank’s first show on DAZN, which probably explains the safer main event choice.

Davis called it a chance to show growth and put on a show at home. That may be true, but it also reads like a fight he can’t afford to lose or look poor, rather than one that moves him closer to the names people actually want to see him face.
