John Korir won the Boston Marathon for the second time in a row. In near-perfect conditions, John took the lead at around 30k and set a record pace for the last six miles, breaking the 2011 record of 2:03:02 set by Geoffrey Muta.

BOSTON (USA, April 20). In excellent conditions, including the favored tailwind, Kenya’s John Korir won the Boston Marathon for the second consecutive year in a record 2:01:52 (61:50/60:02), the seventh-fastest time in history. He beat world champion Alphonse Simbu of Tanzania (2:02:47) and Kenya’s Benson Kipruto (2:02:50) by almost a minute, both of which were the previous course record of 2:03:02 set in 2011 by Geoffrey Mutai. and seventh (2:04:35) respectively, while Germany’s Richard Ringer was the European leader in eighth with 2:04:47. In an excellent race in terms of depth, the top 13 finishers broke the 2:06 barrier and the top 28 all ran inside the 2:10 mark.
