The 2011 1500m world champion, now 39, was running in North Carolina.
Former World and Olympic medalist Jenny Simpson is treated after collapsing while walking runners in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The 39-year-old American reportedly suffered a serious medical emergency at the Sir Walter Running event on Tuesday (June 16) and was revived by first responders before being taken to hospital. Event organizers later confirmed he was receiving medical attention and thanked emergency crews for their quick response.

A three-time Olympian, Simpson is one of America’s most decorated middle-distance runners of her generation. He won 1500m gold at the 2011 Daegu World Championships before adding silver medals at the 2013 and 2017 Worlds. A bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics made her the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the 1500m.

Simpson retires from professional competition in 2024 after a career that also produced 11 US national titles and Diamond League victories. Since he retired from elite racing, he has remained actively involved in the sport.
