Management is carefully considering creating split operating windows or moving to an alternate slot entirely at the end of the calendar year.
“The weather is another problem we are facing now with May getting so hot. We are also looking to see if we can find a window from February to April and then at the end of the year“, Dhumal told Sportstar.

Balancing global broadcast demands and corporate festival windows
Moving the world’s most populous cricket calendar event isn’t as simple as changing dates on a page. Any definitive change requires complex alignment with global broadcasters and multi-million dollar advertising stakeholders. Dhumal emphasized that the board takes a strictly collaborative approach rather than fulfilling a unilateral mandate. Media rights holders, corporate sponsors and international cricket boards will all have an equal seat at the negotiating table ahead of the 2027 cycle.
“We have to sit down and talk to the broadcaster about their thoughts on whether the tournament should be moved to another window. One of the proposals was a window between September and October. This is the best time from an advertiser’s point of view as it is just before Diwali“he added.
He further noted that as the IPL dictates the international calendar and affects players from every global jurisdiction, the BCCI will coordinate closely with its international partners to develop a system that works uniformly for global cricket. Interestingly, a fall schedule is not entirely foreign territory; The IPL has successfully adapted to the September-October schedule in the pandemic-disrupted seasons of 2020 and 2021. As the board aims for long-term sustainability, 2027 could mark the start of a permanent new era for the cash-rich league.
