The Indian Premier League has long been regarded as a breeding ground for the next generation of cricket stars, offering young players a grand stage to showcase their skills under intense pressure. Over the years, several new talents have been recognized very early in their careers with consistent performances in the cash-rich league.
This trend has continued seamlessly in recent seasons with IPL 2025 and the ongoing IPL 2026. Among them, Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Suryavanshiand Ayush Mhatre distinguished by his fearless approach and impressive consistency. Their performances not only caught the attention of fans but also got praise from seasoned cricketers and experts.
Ravichandran Ashwin Priyansh Explains Why Arya Is Slightly Over Vaibhav Suryavanshi And Ayush Mhatre
Indian veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently shared his thoughts on these rising stars and highlighted what sets Arya apart from her contemporaries. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin clarified that his aim was not to compare or rank players unfairly, but to point out the subtle differences in their current form and skill sets.
“No need to bring anyone up or down, but this is Priyansh Arya. As much as Ayush Mhatre is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, he feels a bit ahead even to me (not trying to put anyone above or below anyone, but Priyansh Arya, to me, looks a step ahead even of Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav)“,” Ashwin said pointing out that Arya was looking a bit ahead at the moment. He emphasized that Arya’s ability to convert starts into big scores was crucial in giving him that edge. Unlike many young batsmen who have flashed brilliance but struggle with consistency, Arya has shown a knack for building substantial runs.
Ashwin also pointed to Arya’s wider range of shots as a defining factor. Versatility is key in modern T20 cricket and Arya’s ability to adapt to different match situations and play a variety of strokes makes him a more complete batsman. While both Mhatre and Suryavanshi have shown great potential and ability, Ashwin believes Arya’s current consistency and stroke selection gives him a slight edge.
“I’m not comparing them because he keeps scoring big and has a wider range of shots.” Ashwin added.

Bright future of Indian cricket
The emergence of players like Arya, Mhatre and Suryavanshi paints a promising picture for the future of Indian cricket. With the IPL serving as a high-pressure platform, these youngsters gain invaluable experience competing alongside and against the world’s best players. Such exposure sharpens their technical skills as well as strengthens their mental toughness.
India’s bench strength has grown significantly in recent years, with numerous young players poised to step up to the international level. The presence of a strong domestic structure, coupled with opportunities in leagues such as the IPL, ensures a steady pipeline of talent. The trio discussed by Ashwin represents just a fraction of the developing pool, suggesting that the national team will continue to have a wealth of options across formats.
If their current trajectory continues, it won’t be long before these young stars make their mark on the international stage. With a healthy competition and consistent performance taking them forward, Indian cricket looks to be in good hands for years to come.
