Inter cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Cagliari at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, with Nicolo Barella leading the charge in a dominant Serie A performance.
Inter came into this match sitting at the top of the Serie A table, aiming to maintain their title push. Cagliari have reached 16th place, desperate for points to secure their safety after a difficult run of form.
The first half continued without goals even though Inter controlled the pace of the game. Both teams struggled to find a breakthrough, although the tension was evident as Cagliari players S. Esposito and G. Borrelli were shown yellow cards within two minutes of each other.
Inter pushed hard to break the deadlock before the interval. They moved the ball with intent, but CÃ ller’s defense remained disciplined enough to keep the home team at bay until the half-time whistle.
The second half started with renewed energy from the locals. Inter finally broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute. Michel Thuram found space in the box and fired home to give his team a deserved lead.
The momentum remained firmly with the home side after the first goal. Just four minutes later, in the 56th minute, Nicolo Barella doubled the lead. He took advantage of the team’s relentless pressure to extend the lead.
Cagliari struggled to respond as the game progressed. They managed just one shot on target all game, failing to threaten Inter’s goal effectively despite having 44 percent of the possession.
Inter continued to dictate the game, with 18 shots in total. His expected goals (xG) metric of 2.16 reflected his constant attacking threat against struggling opposition.
As the game drew to a close, Piotr Zielinski added a finishing touch to the scoreboard. He found the net in the 90th+2nd minute, securing a comprehensive 3-0 win for the league leaders.
This result keeps Inter firmly at the top of the standings with 75 points. For Cagliari, the defeat highlights the challenges they still have in their fight to avoid relegation this season.
