Halfway through the Truist Championship, Im Sungjae holds a slim one-shot lead at 9-under after a second-round 69. After being sidelined for five months with a wrist injury, he returned last March and now finds himself in position to chase third PGA TOUR win.
During a post-round press conference after Friday’s round, he credited his strong driving performance and past Presidents Cup experience for his strong start through two rounds.
“I’m hitting fairways, as you can see there in the data. So it makes it easier for me to hit my second shots on the green in difficult pin positions,” Im said, “because of playing the Presidents Cup, I know where to miss the green, I’m very familiar with this golf course.”
For Im, the only part of his game that still feels a little out of sync is his shot – an area where Tommy Fleetwood, who sits a shot back, has excelled in two rounds.
“I think the greens are very, very difficult and I just had a really good eye for it over the first couple of days and put up well and that’s been a big difference for me,” Fleetwood said.
Fleetwood sits at 8-under after opening the week with back-to-back 67s. The 2025 FedExCup champion enters the weekend heavily competitive as he seeks his second PGA TOUR title.
Im and Fleetwood will tip off for the third round at 1:50pm ET.
