In his long career near the top of the pro game, Rory McIlroy has only won two championships in a single season once. That was back in 2014. Twelve years later, McIlroy begins his 2026 US Open campaign at Shinnecock Hills with a chance to repeat that feat.

He is in that position thanks to his 2026 Masters victory in April, which represented his second straight win at Augusta National.

it looked confident in his pre-tournament press conference on Monday, and heading into Round 1 at Shinnecock, McIlroy’s game is in good shape. Whether he and the other contestants can successfully navigate or not brutal winds AND tough greens Thursday is another matter.

McIlroy tees off early Thursday morning at 7:52 a.m. ET and will play with his European Ryder Cup teammates. Ludvig Ã…berg AND Tommy Fleetwood.
