How much each player has made

A week ago, Scottie Scheffler’s first jump at immortality came up short at the US Open. But the world number 1 did not dwell on his missed opportunity. Instead, he arrived at TPC River Highlands and quickly put the pedal down at the Travelers Championship.

Scheffler flirted with a 59 on Friday as he jumped out to a two-shot lead Viktor Hovland in Cromwell, Conn. Scheffler and Hovland traded shots on Saturday, with the Norwegian finishing the third round with a birdie to take a lead over Scheffler into Sunday’s final round.

Hovland, who hasn’t won since last year’s Valspar Championship, has struggled with his swing for the better part of two years as he works to find the desired swing feel. This week at Travelers, Hovland said he’s hitting the kinds of shots he wants, which gives him confidence that the work he’s been doing is finally taking off.

It all led to Sunday’s showdown with Scheffler, giving Hovland and his work in progress a real test under pressure.

Hovland and Scheffler went back and forth all day Sunday with Scheffler holding a two-shot lead through 13 holes when play was halted by rain and lightning. When play resumed, Hovland birdied 14 and 15 to tie Scheffler.

As darkness descended on TPC River Highlands, Scheffler made clutch birdies on 17 and 18 to send the Travelers Championship into a Monday playoff.

In the playoff, both players hit short birdie putts. After Hovland finished his, Scheffler missed his attempt, presenting Hovland with the winner’s title and prize.
