“There’s a limited number of fights, and he can’t fight every single guy. So why don’t you guys (Iglesias and Sheeraz) figure it out, who wants to step in the front,” Kellerman said on the InsideRingShow.
Kellerman dismissed the idea of Canelo firing any fighter.
“He’s not saying he’s ignoring Sheeraz and ignoring Iglesias. In fact, he’s just giving them a path. He’s saying, ‘I’m fighting Mbilli. You’re fighting each other. It’s not a duck. It’s about business,'” Kellerman said.
Sheeraz has already made it clear he has little interest in following Canelo’s proposed route. Responding to the suggestion in an earlier interview, the British fighter said he respected Alvarez but would not let another boxer dictate his career decisions.
A fight between Sheeraz and Iglesias could answer many of the remaining questions about both men.
Canelo is preparing to face Mbilli, a contender widely regarded as one of the most dangerous fighters in the division due to his relentless pressure and high volume offense. Meanwhile, Sheeraz’s two fights since moving up to 168 pounds have come against Edgar Berlanga, who he stopped in July 2025 after Canelo defeated him the previous year, and 39-year-old Alem Begic for the vacant WBO title.
A match between Sheeraz and Iglesias could eliminate many of the questions that still surround both men. Sheeraz will have the opportunity to silence critics who believe his super middleweight resume remains thin, while Iglesias could cement the growing reputation that has led some fans to label him the division’s boogeyman.
The winner would represent a bigger and more marketable challenge. Rather than face Sheeraz immediately following his win over Begic, Alvarez could face an opponent coming off a decision win over another world champion, adding greater significance to what could be one of the final marquee fights of his career.
