Nike Outdoor Nationals 2026: The Boys are ready to take over Hayward Field
Every June, Hayward Field becomes the center of the high school track and field universe. The biggest stars in sports arrive in Eugene carrying national titles, national records and championship expectations. This year’s Nike Outdoor Nationals has all that and more.
Only sprint events are worth the price of admission. For the first time this season, some of the nation’s fastest high school sprinters will go head-to-head on the same stage. Jake O’Day-Jordan coming off the back of a stunning 9.94 all-conditions performance and adding the Nike Indoor Nationals 200m title to his growing resume. His ability to accelerate in the middle stages of a race has made him one of America’s most exciting young sprinters.
Will be standing next to him Tate Taylor, Defending champion at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Taylor spent the last year proving why he remains one of the most feared names in high school track. His 9.95 all-conditions mark reminds everyone that he is still capable of championship performances when the pressure is on.
Dillon Mitchell enters Eugene carrying his own momentum after winning the 60m crown at the Nike Indoor Nationals. His 9.88 all-conditions best exemplifies the kind of speed that can completely change a race in the final meters.
Then there is Blake Hamilton, whose all-around high school record of 19.86 in the 200m dash established him as one of the fastest quarterbacks ever to see the prep ranks. After finishing second in the 200m at the Nike Indoor Nationals, Hamilton enters Hayward Field looking for redemption and another chance to show why his name is already part of sprint history.
The story becomes even more compelling when the individual races are over. These rivals will put aside their personal ambitions and join forces as one Nike Elite Program 4x100m relay squad Fans will have a rare opportunity to watch four of the nation’s fastest athletes go from rivals to teammates as they chase relay glory against some of America’s top club programs.
The hurdlers could provide the most historic performance of the weekend. Andrew Jones arrives as one of the top high school athletes in the nation. The Texas star holds the national record in the 300m hurdles at 34.72 and ran a stunning 12.97 in the 110m hurdles, the fastest time ever by a high school athlete in all conditions. Her season already included a remarkable double-double at the Texas state championships, where she won titles in both hurdles. Every Jones appearance carries the opportunity for history, and Hayward Field has long been a record-setting place.
In distance events, the mile is the focus. Strong fields at 5,000 meters, but the stars to watch are miles away; Dylan Rowell, Andrew Berozet, and: Abdi Nasr. There will be some new stars coming out of Eugene, so keep your eyes peeled.
