Tech3 CEO Guenter Steiner believes 2027 will be the “best year” to sign a rookie due to the new MotoGP regulations, and Moto2 ace Senna Agius could still get the call.
Agius has attracted interest around the MotoGP paddock with his performances in the middle class this season. But after seeing Pramac and Trackhouse look elsewhere, Tech3 could be Australia’s only option to ride in the premier class next year.
When reports suggest that Agius had the chance to replace Jack Miller with Pramac.Yamaha’s expected decision to retain Ai Ogura for their factory team and promote Izan Guevara from Moto2 has blocked the way. Toprak Razgatlioglu will succeed Guevara at Pramak until 2027.
So it was said Agius had a conversation with Trackhouse Due to Ogura’s imminent exit for 2027. However, the expectation now is that Trackhouse will re-sign Raul Fernandez and welcome Enea Bastianini from Tech3 when his factory KTM contract expires.

Agius’ dominance in Moto2 victories has been particularly striking for Steiner following the 21-year-old’s wins at COTA and Jerez earlier this season. But the former Haas F1 team boss wants more consistency from the Camden, New South Wales native, as that is his biggest flaw.
Steiner said, through quotes Engine script: “Do I like him? He’s very fast, he dominates the race. He’s still inconsistent.
There’s always a risk when you sign a rookie. I think next year represents a big opportunity for Moto2 riders to move up to MotoGP.
“They will still have a lot to learn, but the reduced aerodynamics and the Pirelli tires will help. There are a lot of changes that everyone will have to adapt to. I think 2027 is the best year to sign a rookie.”
Agius opened the 2026 Moto2 term with two scoreless results in Thailand and Brazil before back-to-back wins in the USA and Spain. And since his win, the Austrian has only secured P3 podiums in Italy and Hungary, before sealing P7 in France and P4 in Barcelona.

Agius’ Moto2 performances may still be relevant for MotoGP promotion. Tech3 Next year, Steiner says the outfit has “no decision-making power” and KTM should decide not to take up their option to extend Bastianini’s contract – something KTM is not believed to be planning.

Tech3 will work with KTM to develop the 2027 lineup, but Bastianini et al Maverick Vinales Both have working agreements for the Austrian brand. Vinales says KTM will get a factory ride in 2027. Even last winter, however, that supply appears to have died due to water damage.
KTM is believed to be signing Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio as their factory pair for 2027, with Vinales struggling to secure a seat at Tech3. Steiner isn’t against the idea of Vinales staying with Tech 3, but the 31-year-old needs to prove he’s finally fully fit.
“We have to make sure that the real Maverick comes back,” Tech3 CEO Steiner said. “He’s the first one to be unhappy with his past results, but we have to understand if it’s just the shoulder or something else, we’re not in a rush to make a decision, so he shouldn’t be.”
“There aren’t many options on the market, so we’re trying to get the best of what’s left. A fast driver can quickly adapt to the new rules.”
