Llevant secured a crucial 2-0 win over Mallorca at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, with Carlos Espà and Kervin Arriaga scoring to keep the hosts away from the relegation zone.
Both teams entered this League match with 39 points in the battle for survival. Llevant were 19th, while Mallorca were 18th, making this a pivotal clash at the bottom of the table. The hosts showed recent form with back-to-back wins, while Mallorca struggled with inconsistency. Victory would be vital to either side’s hopes of avoiding the drop.
Levante started brightly and took the lead in the 32nd minute through EspÃ. The defender fired home to give the hosts an early lead in their fight for survival. Referee decisions dominated the first period as Nicolás Pérez was shown a yellow card by Levante in the 30th minute.
Mallorca controlled possession of the ball with 71 percent, but created few clear-cut chances. The visitors completed 538 passes with 88 per cent accuracy, but their expected goals stood at just 0.35. Levante goalkeeper Mathew Ryan made three saves to keep his side ahead at the break.
In the second half, Mallorca continued their possession-based approach. However, they were unable to break down Levante’s defense or find the back of the net. Ryan remained calm in goal, thwarting the visitors’ offensive efforts throughout the period.
The game turned chaotic in the 86th minute when Jon Ander Mojica received a red card for Mallorca. Moments later, Rubén Brugué also saw red for Levante, leaving both teams reduced to ten men. The numerical disadvantage did not manage to stop Levante’s momentum.
Kervin Arriaga sealed the result with a goal in the 87th minute, a few seconds after the double dismissals. The end of the midfielder dealt a decisive blow to Mallorca’s hopes of survival. Arriaga was rated 8.3 for his overall display, making six tackles alongside his target.
Levante scored a penalty through Adrián de la Fuente in the 90th+6th minute to reach a wide score of 2-0. The late addition ended a dominant defensive performance from the hosts. Ryan’s three saves were instrumental in keeping the clean sheet.
The statistics told a story of Levante’s efficiency. Despite Mallorca’s 71 percent possession, Levante managed 12 shots against their rival’s 9. The home side registered 3 shots on target compared to Mallorca’s 3, showing clinical finishing when opportunities arose.
This victory takes Levante to 42 points with one game left. Mallorca remains on 39 points, its survival hopes now hanging by a thread. The difference of three points could be decisive in the dramatic conclusion of the last day.
