George Martin admits ‘I lost four seconds’ after comparing personal training times to Jack Miller

George Martin has detailed just how impressive Jack Miller is on a motocross bike, highlighting that he can’t even get within ‘three or four seconds’ of the veteran MotoGP rider.

Motocross is often considered the best training tool for MotoGP riders, as they can’t get much more involved in their own test days than the prototype machinery used to compete in the premier class.

George Martin reveals how ‘strong’ Jack Miller is on a motocross bike

In a form on Gypsy Tales PodcastMartin was asked about his experience in motocross machinery and how he uses his time on dirt bikes to complement his efforts in MotoGP.

“So I started in 2013, I think,” he began. “My father’s friend gave us a KTM since 2007, because we didn’t have the money to buy it. He was nice, and because I don’t have a motorcycle, he gave it to me for training.

“I only had a pied bike, like on a karting (track). And that’s how I got to Moto3, and then I started doing motocross. You know, I wasn’t super, but after a few years I started to get the technique.

“I have instincts, so, you know, the throttle is always open, even though I always say spin. But yeah, I like to train motocross and do some whipping.”

After being told by the host that he rides a motocross bike very well, Martin said, “I’m not as fast as, say, Jack Miller, who is super strong.”

“I feel like I lost three or four seconds, but anyway, it’s enough for me, I like it, and I can do my run for 25-30 minutes, it’s good training.”

Motocross is a key part of Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Riders Academy training.
