Floyd Mayweather Says Pacquiao Fight Nears Agreement

Floyd Mayweather Jr. says discussions for a fight against Manny Pacquiao are nearing completion, adding that a deal could be finalized within the next two days as boxing continues to move toward new promotional and streaming models.

Mayweather made the comments on Thursday while promoting his upcoming June 27 exhibition against Mike Zambidis at Telekom Center, Athens, at OAKA Olympic Complex in Greece.

“Well, at this particular time, I really believe that, you know, I know everybody’s going to want to ask questions about the Pacquiao fight,” Mayweather told the media. “Like I said, the sport of boxing has really changed. We have a lot of new companies, a lot of new faces, and Netflix. I really believe that we’re going to get it done. I think we’re almost at the finish line to finish the Pacquiao fight, but a lot of things have changed in the sport of boxing and ultimately I think within the next 48 hours the Pacquiao fight has to happen.”

Mayweather and Pacquiao previously fought in 2015 in one of the highest-grossing pay-per-view events in boxing history. Interest in another meeting between the two has persisted for years through exhibition talk, public appearances and constant speculation about crossover-style events.

The reference to Netflix also stood out as major streaming platforms continue to increase their involvement in combat sports, along with Saudi-backed boxing events and newer promotional ventures entering the market.
