This weekend is a dream weekend for cross country and track geeks. Saturday morning starts with the NIKE Cross Nationals and then the USATF Cross Country Nationals on Runnerspace.com.
While over on Flotrack.com, Boston University’s season opener, the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, begins at 8:30 am. While it will be an all-day event with jumps and throws starting at 9 a.m. and sprints around 9:45 a.m., Flotrack has helped BU streamline the schedule so that the elite events run from 2:55 to 4:25 with the 800m to 5k invitational and then the 3-meter 500 to the men’s 7.0 at night. 7:15 to 9:20.

Ryan FentonFlosports’ Track & Field GM wrote RunBlogRun. “We worked with BU this year to reschedule three major events. We will have all the fastest divisions packed together in a 90 minute to 2 hour window for the BU season opener, the Terrier and the Valentine Invitational.” Wow, you mean we could probably do some holiday shopping or grocery shopping instead of spending all day in front of a computer screen. How many novels?
Seriously, one of the biggest problems with this sport is that the sport tends to believe that running fans have all this time off. On the contrary, my brother.
I always have time Ryan Fenton. Besides being jealous of his 3-5 day beard (at 67 I still can’t do that so I just grow a beard). time FlosportsRyan and his team have weathered the storm that hit when FloTrack filed for the Diamond League. It was a great business decision, and slowly but surely, Flosports is making track fans get it. Diamond League is on the US stream and Flosports is building some serious content and programming support. Hall of athletes, I love, back Trey Hardy, English Gardner and: Matt Centrowitzamong others.
I think Ryan Fenton has something here. BU meetings are fun, but VERY long. Streamlining elite racing makes a lot of sense. So we’ll close with some deep thoughts from the new Commissioner of Athletics, Ryan Fenton:
“The goal is to have a window where fans can watch all the best stuff and not have to wait at different times of the day to see the best sections.
Ryan Fenton, in all seriousness, is working to redefine how FloTrack & FloSports interact with sports audiences and showcase sports. Time for some of us to catch fire, in my humble opinion.
