Fiorentina cruised to a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, with a late winner to decide the match.
Fiorentina and Crystal Palace entered this UEFA Europa Conference League clash in fine form. Both sides opened their campaigns with victories, setting the stage for an intense battle in Florence.
The hosts started with a lot of energy. In the 18th minute, Fiorentina striker Lucas Beltran broke the deadlock. He hooked a precise cross and put the ball past the goalkeeper.
Crystal Palace responded well to the setback. They pushed forward, looking for an immediate equaliser. Their patience paid off when Eberechi Eze curled a fine effort into the top corner in the 34th minute.
The game remained poised as the half-time whistle approached. The two teams traded possession in midfield, but neither could find a breakthrough before the break. The score was 1-1.
The managers demanded more urgency during the interval. Fiorentina needed better service from their forwards, while the visitors looked to exploit gaps on the counter-attack.
The second half began with tactical adjustments from both benches. Palace strengthened their defence, forcing the hosts to work harder for scoring opportunities.
Fiorentina increased the pressure as the clock ticked down. In the 78th minute, Jonathan Ikone threw himself into the area. He took a low shot that deflected into the net.
The visitors fought until the final whistle. They pushed the men over for a corner in stoppage time, but Fiorentina’s defense held firm to protect the advantage.
Statistically, the match was close. Fiorentina had 54% possession and posted an xG of 1.65. Crystal Palace managed 1.28 xG from 11 shots, although only three troubled the keeper.
This result puts Fiorentina in a strong position within their group. They now sit ahead of the visitors in the table, continuing their unbeaten start to the competition.
