The atmosphere at the MA Chidambaram Stadium was as electric as the 37th match on Sunday. IPL 2026 A high-stakes clash took place in the middle of the season Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT). In a season where every point counts towards the playoffs, GT produced a clinical performance that stunned the Yellow Army. From a deadly opening spell that silenced the Chepauk crowd to a batting masterclass that made a tough chase look like a walk in the park, Gujarat dominated every aspect of the game and cruised to a massive 8-wicket victory.
Kagiso Rabada took CSK’s batting line to a meager total
The tone was set early in the evening by the South African speedster Kagiso Rabadapreparing a master class on tempo bowling. Electing to bat first, CSK were hoping to set a daunting target, but Rabada had other plans. He finished with remarkable figures of 3/25 in 4, taking advantage of the slight movement available under the lights.
Rabada scored his first shot in the 4th period and saved a dangerous shot Sanju Samson for 11. He did not stop there, eliminating Urvil Patel (4) leaving CSK reeling at 25/2 after just three balls. When Muhammad Siraj called to remove Sarfaraz Khan For a duck below, CSK’s top order had effectively evaporated inside the Powerplay.
Despite the captain’s valiant, lone warrior effort Ruturaj GaikwadUnbeaten on 74 from 60 balls (including 11 boundaries), the lack of support at the other end was evident. Contributions from Shivam Dubey (22) and Jamie Overton (18) provided a late flourish but Rabada came back to take it Karthik Sharma (15) and a total of about 180 to dash any hopes. CSK eventually rose to a modest 158/7 and swelled, running short on a surface that was beginning to settle for at least 20 runs.
Sai Sudharsan leads GT to a convincing win against CSK
If Rabada broke the spirit of CSK bowlers, Sai Sudharsan broke his decisions. Chasing 159, Gujarat Titans came out with an aggressive intent that caught the Chennai spinners off guard. Playing with a blend of classic elegance and modern power, Sudharsan put on a batting clinic that saw GT reach the target in just 16.4 overs.
The opening stand between Sudharsan and the captain Shubman Gill (23-of-33) was a timing play that brought up the team’s 50 in just 5.3 overs. With Gill gone, Sudharsan found a capable ally inside If Buttler30 out of 39 who played an unbeatable supporting role.
Sudharsan was the undisputed star, conceding 87 runs off just 46 deliveries. His knock was punctuated by 8 boundaries and 4 powerful sixes, hitting a mammoth 189.13. until the time he was dismissed by Akeal Hosein The result on the 17th was just a formality. GT won by 20 balls with a score of 162/2. This dominant win takes Gujarat to the 5th spot in the table and leaves CSK looking for answers as the race for the top four continues.

Kagiso Rabada’s numbers this season are good for two reasons
1) High tempo of 150 sequences
2) don’t go for the slower ball earlySimilar story for Jofra Archer.
Don’t hit the slow ball unnecessarily.
