Cricket has a funny way of making fans feel a mountain of emotions at once. Just when the inner circle is buzzing with speculation about the upcoming season, India‘s gritty wicketkeeper-oriented Kona Srikar Bharat dropped a big bomb. Only 32 years old Andhra Stumper has turned to social media to take time out from his international career.
The announcement shocked the cricketing community, raising feelings of love, respect and deep nostalgia from fans who had watched him reach the top. It’s a bittersweet moment for Indian cricket – bidding farewell to a man who epitomized the phrase ‘silent worker’.
KS Bharat bids farewell to international cricket
Bharat didn’t come out with a flashy press conference; he did so with the same quiet dignity that defined his playing days. In a deeply moving social media post, she expressed her deep gratitude for getting to live a dream her entire family has shared for more than two decades.
“It is with a sense of pride and gratitude that I announce my retirement from international cricket. Playing for my country has been the greatest honor of my life. My journey has required a lot of stamina and strength, but the honor of representing India in Tests has been worth every moment.” Bharat wrote in his statement.
What really captured the hearts of his fans was his appreciation for the pillars of his career. He took a moment to thank his family – calling himself a product of their love, discipline and hard work. He also expressed his special respect Virat Kohli Due to the success of the IPL, Rohit Sharma for giving him the priceless Test cap and Rahul Dravid to him for mentoring the senior India A squad seamlessly.
A journey built on pure courage and resilience
For the longest time, Bharat was the best man in the team. He earned his first national call-up in 2019, but spent thousands of runs in domestic cricket waiting in the wings for years. He became the first wicketkeeper to score 3 centuries Ranji TrophyA unique 308 for Andhra.
When his moment finally came against Australia in Nagpur in February 2023, it was the reward for years of uncomplaining hard work. In 7 test matches, Bharat proved to be an incredibly safe pair of hands behind the stumps and claimed 19 dismissals. He was even given gloves ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia in 2023 at The Oval. While his bat didn’t always reflect the big scores he was capable of at domestic level, his gloves rarely faltered. His last international appearance was against England February 2024 at Visakhapatnam.
Social media platforms are absolutely flooded with messages from fans and the reaction is a beautiful mix of gratitude and emotional respect. Indian cricket fans are very loyal to players who respect the game and Bharat was exactly that. The fans’ “eruption” isn’t just about his stats; it’s about what it represents. In an era dominated by hyper-aggressive sub-continental cricket and constant media noise, Bharat was a throwback to the old school – calm, respectful and always putting the team first. Fans are actively celebrating his legendary Substitute Fielder appearing for an injured player in the 2021 New Zealand match. Wriddhiman Saha and received spectacular lowdowns, winning the hearts of millions even before it made its official debut.

One of the reasons why KS Bharat retired at the age of 32 could be that he felt his options were limited in India for a long time after retirement as he could have explored other leagues around the world where he would have earned good money and made a place in the XI.
