Eubank Jr. says Boks has grown cold after 21 years

Chris Eubank Jr. revealed that he had become jaded and emotionless due to the treatment he received from the “barbarians, barbarians and animals” which he had to deal with during his career. This caused him to become disillusioned and distrustful of people, expecting the worst.

A world full of barbarians

Dealing with all the murderous individuals and sneaky reptiles left middleweight contender Eubank Jr. eroded his confidence as he faces his 12-round rematch against Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) this Saturday, November 15, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

Eubank Jr. does not say whether any of the promoters, fighters or management associated with his fight against Benn fit the category of a “barbarian” or “beast”. Still, the way he appeared uninvolved in the promotion of the event, compared to the first fight, suggests that he is not comfortable with these individuals.

“21 years of being surrounded by savages, animals, people who want to use you, hurt you, abuse you. That’s the reality of many of the environments you find yourself in the boxing world,” Chris Eubank Jr. Boxing King Mediaand discuss why he became so cold and emotionless.

It’s a war mentality in boxing, and it naturally leads to fighters having to deal with this kind of stuff that burns them out quickly. Interestingly, some people are not affected as much as others. Promoter Eddie Hearn is an example. He lets things roll off his back without becoming permanently bitter from backbiting and betrayal.

Emotion stripped away

“It stripped me of my emotion. I learned that you can’t be emotional in this world because people will take that emotion and use it against you. I saw it once, because you see it happen all the time with guys. When I understood that, I was cold. It’s all business,” says Eubank Jr. about how he dealt with the snakes and the world through life in his years of mutilation.

Eubank Jr. gives no hints about who he feels has wronged him in the past to make him cold and distant. He definitely changed from how he acted in his first fight against Benn. He was upbeat, joking and enjoying himself while promoting that event. He was the driving force behind making the event a success. For the rematch he was only there in person, and that hurt the promotion.

Trust eaten alive

“Even when people screw me now, I don’t get emotional. I expect it. I get mad at myself. Of course they turned you around in this place. Of course they did. Of course they used you here,” Eubank Jr. said. said.

Chris Jr. appears embittered, and he doesn’t seem to have enjoyed promoting the second fight.

“Obviously they took advantage of you here. That’s what they’re supposed to do. You should have known that. You can’t have emotion in this sport. That’s why I have no friends in this industry. All my friends are outside the boxing world,” Eubank Jr. said.
