Elish McColgan. disappointed with his second marathon

Eilish McColgan

Eilish McColgan had a disappointing day at the London Marathon. Now most of us would kill to finish 7th in 2:24.51, but then Eilish has reason to have higher expectations. In her first marathon last year, she ran 2:24:25.

Earlier in the week, I spoke to Ailish about the challenges of her preparation and her expectations for the race. This year was a little different. We had a pretty short build up to it because I knew I had to really focus on getting my 10 and a half back to where they were, like after knee surgery. It took me a long time to get to those faster sessions. So that was really the focus because I know in the long run that’s what’s going to help my marathon. So it was a short training session, but in that short training session I was still able to run longer, do more runs.”

As for expectations, “I guess you can’t argue with PB. Of course, I have bigger goals and objectives for myself. I’d obviously like to run 2:20, but I don’t know how realistic that is on the London course. I know there are pacemakers, but they are really pacemakers for that frontal group. And last year I ran very fast to 2:20. more likely to come in Berlin, Chicago, Valencia, which are moving much faster.”

Most people would agree with Eilish that London is not a track record. well, until we get two 1:59s, not to mention a third straight women’s only world record.

“Not long after the halfway mark I had a really bad blister on my leg. It sounds weird, but the only way I can put it is that I felt like my leg just exploded. It was obviously quite painful and it was freaking me out a bit. “It’s a long way to get to 26.2.” Then it started to hurt at mile 24 as well and my knee started to go up but I just thought. Blood So it’s disappointing to run the same time as I did on my debut last year. He said he was determined to finish but worried about risking another injury while trying to protect his leg.

Aylish added that she had no idea what was causing it, as she was running in familiar shoes that she had used in the 10K and half marathon.

Asking about his plans for the year – another Commonwealth Games marathon? – Eilish said he would have to see how long it took to recover before making a decision.
