The star all-rounder returns home in CSK’s quest to make the playoffs
Chennai Super Kings confirmed the English all-rounder on Wednesday, May 13 Jamie Overton returned to the UK after injuring his right thigh. The franchise shared the update via its official social media channels, stating that the player will undergo “further evaluation and management” in his home country. His absence at this stage of the competition is certainly a major concern for CSK.
Overton’s injury comes just days after he scored a match-winning performance Lucknow Super Giants in Chepauk. In a high-scoring encounter that saw LSG reach 91/1 during the Powerplay, the Englishman helped CSK pull things back brilliantly with a three-wicket spell. His effort was instrumental in restricting the visitors to 203 before Chennai completed a thrilling chase in the final over.
The injury blow also leaves CSK with selection headaches. The franchise recently brought Karnataka batter Macneil Noronha as a substitute for Ramakrishna Ghoshhowever, there is currently no directly comparable all-round replacement in the squad.
As a result, Chennai may now have to change their overseas combination in the upcoming matches. Australian pacer Spencer Johnson is one option to consider if CSK decide to strengthen their bowling attack.
With a veteran goalkeeper, the situation becomes more complicated MS Dhoni has not yet participated in this season. Reports also suggest that Dhoni has not traveled to Lucknow with the squad for the May 15 match, adding more intrigue to Chennai’s plans for the rest of the campaign.

Overton emerged as one of the standout performers for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 and established himself as a genuine match winner during the season. The English all-rounder has been consistent with both bat and ball and has quickly become an important part of CSK’s balance in the playing XI.
In 10 matches this season, Overton has taken 14 wickets at an impressive average of 17.78 while maintaining an economy rate of 8.89. Apart from his bowling contributions, he made several impressive cameos down the order, scoring 136 runs at a strike rate of 158.13.
His ability to break partnerships, come under pressure and provide explosive runs in the death overs has made him one of CSK’s most valuable players this year. With the play-off race intensifying, Chennai will certainly feel the absence of a player who has been a major contributor to their turnaround after a difficult start to the season.
