Chinnaswamy Stadium on 5 April, the Chennai franchise filed a formal complaint with the BCCI, alleging that the stadium DJ had crossed professional boundaries by using music and commentary to mock and “sham” his players.
CSK files complaint against RCB’s DJ for controversial song and remarks
At the heart of the controversy is musician Gana Appu’s rendition of his viral track ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney, Chutney’. While the song is a popular social media meme, it has often been weaponized in online fan wars for pushing South Indian stereotypes. CSK officials stated that playing the track before the start of the innings was not in good taste and was a deliberate attempt to mock the team.
The complaint goes beyond the music. Managing Director of CSK Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that the franchise was offended by specific remarks made by the stadium DJ over the public address system. According to the team management, the DJ used abusive language after the CSK beaters were sent off. CSK argued that while the DJ’s role is to energize the home crowd, it should not be to overwhelm or insult the opposition.
“DJs are usually around to support the home team. But it was different at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Certain comments were made against our players. Keeping this in mind, we have written to BCCI to investigate the matter.” Viswanathan told the Indian Express.
This isn’t the first time this particular track has caused friction. Last season RCB released a video of the player Jitesh Sharma his singing of the same song caused a serious reaction from the CSK fan group. Retaliating in the match at Chepauk, CSK played the song when DJ Jitesh was dismissed. However, Viswanathan noted that the CSK management immediately intervened, ordering their DJs to stand down to ensure that opposing players were not targeted – a standard they claimed RCB did not uphold in the recent Bengaluru fixture.
A senior IPL official confirmed that the BCCI Governing Council has received a formal complaint and is currently looking into the stadium’s code of conduct to see if there was any violation.
“We have received a complaint from CSK and we are investigating it” the official said.

A tale of two roads in IPL 2026
In the current IPL 2026 season, RCB has emerged as the powerhouse of the league, maintaining an exceptional winning streak that includes a dominant 43-run victory over their southern rivals. Their clinical performance, especially at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, cemented their position at the top of the table.
Conversely, CSK struggled to find a consistent rhythm; while they remain a formidable threat with a deep roster, their loss to RCB highlights their bowling department’s ongoing problems in the death overs and a batting line-up that is faltering under a high-pressure chase.
