Chris Sutton believes Newcastle United are in danger of losing Eddie Howe after a disappointing summer transfer window.
The Magpies brought in William Osula and Lloyd Kelly as the only stalwarts on the pitch, as well as making the loan of Chelsea’s Lewis Hall permanent.
This was despite being linked with a number of high profile moves, most notably Marc Guehi.
Newcastle saw Crystal Palace reject several bids for Guehi, who has caught the eye over the past two years at club level and for his excellent performances at Euro 2024 with England.
That has left Howe with a headache at centre-back, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles still recovering from long-term injuries.
“Alarm bells ringing” in Newcastle over Howe’s future, Sutton says

Despite the club sitting in fifth place with seven points from three Premier League games, Sutton believes Newcastle fans have plenty of reason to worry about their manager’s future.
The former Blackburn Rovers striker largely blames his failure to secure Guehi, along with reports linking Howe with the England job.
“It’s fascinating what’s happening in Newcastle at the moment,” Sutton said (via HITC). “From the outside, and I’m not from the inside in Newcastle, if I’m a Newcastle fan, then alarm bells are ringing.
“He (Howe) seems to make Marc Guehi his number one target. They didn’t get over that. He talked about concerns in the summer that they weren’t aligned, the hierarchy at the club and Eddie Howe.
“It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see Eddie Howe as the next England manager. Newcastle fans must be worried. What happens next in Newcastle?”
