Chris Billam-Smith says Ryan Rozicki has been injured before

“Every fight I go into, I want to do the best job on somebody and do a better job than anybody else has done. He’s been hurt in the past,” Billiam-Smith said. Sky Sports Boxing.

“The clock went down at the end of the first against Oscar Rivas and that probably saved him from a takedown and maybe even a stoppage with 30 seconds left, but there wasn’t.

“He got through it, and he was buzzing, doing what he’s doing. I think I can do it inside.”

The comments came after an intense fight between the two fighters on Bournemouth beach earlier this week.

Rozicki has made no secret of his approach to Saturday’s fight, saying repeatedly that he doesn’t expect to leave the judges with any role in deciding the outcome.

“Hopefully shorter. I’m very confident,” says Rozicki. “We’re going to try not to take that much damage as we go for the knockout. If it does go to points, I’ve lost.

“I’m not getting a points decision here. We all know that, so it’s a knockout or be knocked out.”

Billam-Smith dismissed the comments as something he had heard many times before from visiting opponents at the Bournemouth International Centre.

“I’ve heard people say that. It’s irrelevant come fight night,” says Billiam-Smith.

“I have had many people in the past who think exactly the same and fully believe the same thing, especially people who have come here to the BIC.

“They thought they were going to come in here and do a number of me, so I could do what I always do here and win.”

Saturday’s fight headlines Zuffa Boxing’s first event in the UK, with Billam-Smith aiming to resume his quest for another world title opportunity.
