“It’s a package. We want both of you,” Bill told Davis during the conversation. “You must get together. You must sign the agreement together. Then we will go back to back with you gentlemen.”
The discussion became more revealing when Davis tried to steer the conversation toward a direct fight with Devin. Bill responded by explaining that Davis was not at the top of the list.
“I told you I was going to give you a good one because you were lower on the list. It was Shakur,” Bill said.
The comments came as Davis continued to push for a fight with Haney, insisting he was ready immediately and questioning what further preparation was needed. Bill acknowledged the interest, but repeatedly returned to the idea of securing both Davis and Stevenson.
“It’s called a double-up,” Bill said. “Two for one on one deal. We get both of you.”
The exchange offers a glimpse into how Team Haney views the landscape. While Davis recently won the WBO’s no. 1 contender and publicly feuded with Haney, Stevenson remains the bigger commercial draw and the more established name. Stevenson is also a longtime rival of Haney, dating back to their amateur days.
Davis seemed eager to move himself to the front of the line during the conversation, but Bill’s reaction suggested that Team Haney saw the situation differently. At one point, Bill contrasted Devin’s accomplishments with Davis’ relative lack of professional experience, noting that Davis only had 14 professional fights.
That position became even clearer when Bill presented a fallback scenario.
“If Shakur doesn’t want to do it, you’re still going to get it,” he told Davis.
The timing is notable because Devin Haney has also been publicly involved with the topic. Earlier this week, Haney reposted an old video of Stevenson asking for a fight with him and added the caption: “Debo is coming.”
Taken together, the message from Team Haney seems clear. They want both Stevenson and Davis. If he gets the pick, Stevenson goes first.
