Why a separate ranking for freeway finding?
Our top slow-swing speed rankings (for players with driver swing speeds less than 90 mph) balance distance, accuracy and forgiveness into a weighted composite score. This is the right approach for a complete picture of driver performance. But for many golfers who can’t afford to spray it sideways, fairway accuracy isn’t just one category among three. It’s the whole ball game.
Here’s the information you need to determine which driver gives slow-speed golfers the best chance to find and stay in the fairway.
How we test

How we measured freeway finding
Our testers hit each driver on a simulated par-4 hole. This means that the free throw percentage, field goal percentage and yards from center (YFC) numbers you see below come from real shooting scenarios; the same dimensions and geometry you face on a golf course.
We evaluated each driver against four metrics to construct this ranking:
- fairway % — The percentage of shots that hit the fairway on our simulated par-4 hole
- Playable shot % — Percentage of shots that fall within 10 yards of the edge of the fairway; shots that are recoverable fouls even when they don’t find the short grass
- Yards from the Center — Average lateral distance from the center of the freeway to the landing; lower is better
- Shooting area — The size of the dispersion ellipse that captures the driver’s full stroke pattern; tighter is better
Finding the freeway results in slower swing speeds
The numbers here tell a clear story. Every driver in the top four beats the field average in all four metrics. of Srixon ZXi Max leads everything with a free rate more than 13 points above the field average.
What about the distance?
Conventional wisdom is that precision drivers sacrifice distance. With a slower swing speed, it’s important not to give up that distance. The good news is that the data here largely disagrees with the concept of giving up distance to stay on the freeway.
Three of the four fairway drivers are at or above average in the field for distance. of LA golf driver is one of the longest drives in the entire test at 201.3 yards while simultaneously ranking second in finding the fairway. of PXG Lightning Max Lite is nearly two yards above average. AND Srixon ZXi Maxthe best accuracy performer across the field, gives up less than a third of a yard compared to the field average.
The only real exchange at a distance is Tour Edge Exotics LS at 2.5 yards below average. For most golfers, this is a trade worth making given how far it falls in every accuracy metric. It’s also lower in price than many 2026 drivers.
