Benn posted a short video Monday morning showing himself on a treadmill, still scarred after Saturday’s decision win over Regis Prograis. The swelling around both eyes was visible as he pushed for a summer title fight with Ryan Garcia.
“Monday morning, 10k for breakfast. Any day of the week. Disciplined, unmatched work ethic. You can’t outwork me,” Benn said on social media.
The 29-year-old credited Prograis before turning straight to his next target.
“Shout out to Regis Prograis. Back to back stadium shows. I want WBC world title next,” Benn said. “I’m in the process of recovering these from the head collisions, then I’m good to go. I’ll be ready in July or August.”
Benn also made it clear he plans to make a full return to welterweight after fighting above the limit.
“My first fight back at 147, 150. I’m ready to drop back down to 147 to get that world title that belongs to me. Keep that belt warm, Garcia. I’m coming for it.”
At 37, Prograis was considered to be on the slide, but he managed to significantly mark Benn. Those “head clashes” that Benn mentioned are not bought by everyone. The swelling and bruising indicate that he took a very clean leather from a veteran who was physically compromised.
Prograis revealing after the fight that he was coming off with multiple injuries (hand, jaw and ribs) and was effectively on the brink of retirement makes Benn’s inability to find a finish look even worse.
The outcry follows a win that drew mixed reactions despite the result. Benn went the distance with the 37-year-old Prograis in a fight that was expected to be more one-sided, with visible damage still lingering days later.
He is quickly moving towards a title shot, but the footage suggests that recovery may be the first step before any summer return.
