Barcelona defeated Real Betis 3-1 at Camp Nou to extend their dominant season in La Liga, with Raphinha’s brace and João Cancelo’s goal securing an emphatic victory.
Barcelona maintained control of top spot with a strong performance against Real Betis on May 17. The hosts controlled proceedings from start to finish, displaying the attacking prowess that has marked their title-winning campaign. Betis offered little resistance although they pulled one back with a penalty.
The home side struck early when Raphinha opened the scoring in the 28th minute. The Brazilian winger finished with precision after the Barcelona midfielder orchestrated a play through the middle. That first goal set the tone for a dominant first-half display.
Barcelona controlled possession with 63 percent of possession in the first period. They created space with consistency and tested the Betis defense with 13 shots in total. Raphinha proved the standout threat, firing four shots on goal from five attempts throughout the game.
Jules Koundé received a yellow card in the 38th minute when Barcelona’s intensity crossed from time to time in a tough game. Despite this, the home side maintained their advantage heading into the break with a one-goal lead.
The second half began with Barcelona looking for a second goal. Raphinha doubled his tally in the 62nd minute, taking advantage of another well-constructed Barcelona move. The winger’s two-goal haul capped a dominant individual performance with a 9.5 out of 10 rating.
Betis had a penalty four minutes later when Isco converted in the 66th minute. The away team’s brief moment of hope was short-lived as Barcelona regained control. The visitors managed only two shots on goal during the 90 minutes.
João Cancelo secured victory in the 74th minute with a composed finish. The defender’s goal reflected Barcelona’s total dominance in the final third. Cancelo’s contribution highlighted Barcelona’s offensive depth beyond its main strikers.
Barcelona’s statistics underlined their superiority. They have recorded 7 shots on goal compared to Betis’ 2. Expected goals favored the home team by 1.06 to 0.97, although Barcelona’s clinical finish exceeded their xG total. Pedri provided an assist as he created three key passes from midfield.
The win keeps Barcelona on course for a league title. With 91 points in 36 games, they occupy a dominant position at the top. Betis remain fifth with 57 points, their inconsistent form continuing to limit their top four ambitions.
Barcelona’s next test comes as the season enters its final stage. Their attacking form and defensive solidity suggest the title race is effectively decided. Betis must quickly regain momentum to achieve European qualification.
