Atalanta came from behind to stun AC Milan 3-2 at the San Siro, with Christopher Nkunku’s 94th-minute penalty marking a spectacular comeback win.
AC Milan dominated possession and territory for most of this Serie A clash, but Atalanta’s clinical finishing and resilience proved decisive on 10 May. The result leaves Milan fourth with 67 points from 35 games, while Atalanta climbs to seventh position with 55 points.
Atalanta struck first with impressive speed. Éderson opened the scoring in the seventh minute, taking the Milan defense by surprise early on. The visitors capitalized on that advantage when Davide Zappacosta doubled their lead in the 29th minute, putting Atalanta firmly in control at the San Siro.
Milan pushed forward but struggled to break down Atalanta’s organized defence. Rafael Leão received a yellow card in the 34th minute as frustration grew. The hosts created chances but did not have the precision to convert them into goals during the first half.
Giacomo Raspadori extended Atalanta’s lead to 3-0 in the 52nd minute, seemingly putting the game out of reach. Milan faced an uphill battle with just over half an hour to go.
However, Milan refused to give up. Strahinja Pavlović made a comeback in the 88th minute, giving hope to the home crowd. The momentum suddenly shifted as Milan pushed forward with intensity and urgency.
Nkunku, who came on as a substitute, converted a penalty in the 94th minute to complete an unlikely comeback. The dramatic finish had Atalanta’s traveling supporters celebrating as he left Milan bitterly disappointed.
Milan dominated the stats, registering a total of 20 shots compared to Atalanta’s nine. The hosts had 57 percent possession and completed 541 passes with 88 percent accuracy. However, Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi made eight crucial saves and earned an 8.7 rating.
Éderson led Atalanta’s attack with a goal and an assist, while Raspadori added another crucial strike. Nkunku’s impact off the bench proved decisive, firing three shots on goal in just 45 minutes.
This defeat halts Milan’s momentum as they chase the Serie A title. Atalanta’s win shows their ability to win away from home despite being second best for long periods. The two teams face crucial games in their final push for European qualification.
