Terence Crawford says he already told Tim Tszyu that Errol Spence would beat him

Terence Crawford expects Errol Spence Jr. will make a successful comeback when he faces Tim Tszyu on July 25, and he says the Australian already knows where he stands.

Crawford will headline Sydney for the 158-pound catchweight bout and has thrown his support behind the man he stopped in their undisputed welterweight championship fight nearly three years ago.

The retired Crawford didn’t hesitate when asked for his prediction.

“I’m rooting for Spence, rooting (for him). I just love to root for fighters. Of course (I’m picking Spence to win). I told (Tszyu) to his face,” Crawford told Shawn Porter’s channel.

The prediction comes despite Crawford handing Spence the only loss of his professional career in July 2023, when he stopped him in the ninth round to become the undisputed welterweight champion. Since then, Spence spent nearly three years out of the ring before deciding to return at a higher weight.

Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) will make his junior middleweight debut after leaving longtime trainer Derrick James to work with Ronnie Shields. At 36, questions remain about how much he has left after his long layoff and the punishment absorbed during the Crawford fight.

Tszyu (27-3, 18 KOs) enters with significantly more recent activity. After 2 defeats to Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev, the former WBO junior middleweight champion has rebuilt with back-to-back wins and now gets the opportunity to take on one of boxing’s biggest names in front of a home crowd at Sydney’s Olympic Park, Afterpay Arena.

The July 25 card also features Jermall Charlo returning against Koen Mazoudier, while Stephen Fulton takes on Australia’s Liam Wilson.
