Gervonta Davis, Floyd Schofield Goal Fall WBA Lightweight Title Fight

Mike Coppinger reported that negotiations between the camps have intensified, with contracts being exchanged and September or October emerging as the likely timeframe for the fight.

If finalized, the match would be Tank’s first appearance since his controversial majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. earlier this year. The result ended Davis’ long winning streak and sparked debate among fans and analysts, with many believing Roach did enough to secure the victory.

Schofield, meanwhile, would get the biggest opportunity of his young career. The 23-year-old contender has built an undefeated record while steadily climbing the rankings, becoming the WBA’s no. 1 position at lightweight. Although Schofield has drawn criticism from some observers for not facing elite opposition, a fight with Gervonta would provide an immediate chance to prove himself against one of boxing’s biggest draws.

Davis, 31-0-1 (29 KOs), remains one of the sport’s most recognizable stars and a major pay-per-view draw despite the questions surrounding his recent performance. Prior to the Roach fight, the Baltimore native had wins over Frank Martin and Ryan Garcia, cementing his reputation as one of the most dangerous boxers.

Schofield, 19-0 (13 KOs), has repeatedly expressed interest in facing the division’s top names. A win over Tank would instantly change the lightweight landscape and elevate him from promising contender to world champion.
