LCR Honda boss Lucio Cecchinello says he ‘wouldn’t be happy’ to lose Diogo Morera to the factory team in 2027.

The Brazilian rider has made an impressive start to life in MotoGP. He finished in five of the opening seven races, and his best result to date was P7 at the Hungarian GP Sprint.

Moreira looks like a real talent for the future, and Honda intends to further his development. Rumors suggest that a factory seat is on the cards for 2027, which means the LCR.

Lucio Cecchinello ‘will not be happy’ despite Honda signing Diogo Moreira for 2027

Moreira has a direct contract with Honda until 2028. A factory seat has been mentioned for some time, but now it seems that it will become a reality next season.

First, David Alonso is set to join Honda alongside Fabio Quatararo. However, Honda now has doubts about Alonso due to his ‘inconsistent’ results in Moto2.

Then Honda changed their mind for 2027 and now they are looking to swap Alonso and Moreira, leaving the Colombian with the LCR and the Brazilian with the factory team.

It’s a big opportunity for Moreira, but one that LCR will find difficult to accept. Team boss Cecchinello says he ‘will not be happy’ if Honda’s plan succeeds.

He told Sky Sports Italia at Balaton Park: “He has a very calm personality, he is making progress and we are happy.”

“We’ve been working with Honda for 20 years, and as part of our partnership, we also have to provide services. We’re not happy if they decide to take Moreira for 2027, but that’s part of the deal.”
