“Well, I definitely feel like I’m in the best place to make the biggest fights happen,” says Benn. “I reckon that within 10, 15 days there’s going to be a big announcement that will continue to prove why I made the decision I made and also became number one proven world champion.”
The comments immediately fueled speculation about Benn’s next move at welterweight.
Benn is currently the mandatory challenger for WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia. Ryan recently told Jimmy Fallon that he expects to defend his title against Benn on September 12 in Las Vegas, although an official announcement has yet to be made.
While Benn responded to a question about Stevenson, he did not specifically identify the fight or announcement he was referring to.
The undefeated British star has repeatedly spoken about wanting the biggest fights available and has been linked with several high-profile names since capturing a world title.
With Benn suggesting that news could arrive within the next two weeks, attention will now turn to whether an official announcement about his next fight is imminent.
At the moment, Benn’s comments left plenty of room for speculation, but they also hint that a significant development could be approaching sooner rather than later.
